Ford Mustang GT Fastback

The Ford Mustang is an American icon and was originally based on the Ford Falcon compact. The first production Mustang rolled off the assembly line in Dearborn, Michigan in March 1964 and was introduced to the public at the New York World’s Fair on 17th April 1964.  It was, and remains, one of the most successful product launches in automotive history. The Mustang sold over one million units in its first 18 months on the market. 1966 was the last year Ford offered the original Mustang Fastback and it proved to be a stellar year in sales. In all, about 35,000 Mustang Fastbacks were produced in 1966 with just 7889 being ‘Luxury’ versions consequently making this model highly sought after by Mustang collectors. The ’66 model Fastback featured a re-designed grill, new instrument cluster and new styled wheels. An automatic gearbox option was also introduced for the V8. Although other Mustangs sported the Mustang Pony emblem directly behind the front wheel wells, the GT Mustang featured a special GT emblem in its place.

The car presented for sale at Autostorico is a 1967 example shown in original Lime Gold paint with Ivy Gold Vinyl Factory Bucket Seats. This specific car came from the factory specified with the 4.7 litre V8 paired to a 4-Speed Automatic gearbox.

Since purchase the engine has received some sympathetic upgrades in the shape of upgraded MARCH pullies and Serpentine Belt, a 347 Eagle Stroker Kit and Jet Hot exhaust system, all of which gently enhance this Mustang’s already impressive performance. When combined, these upgrades led to an increase in capacity from 289 to 347 cubic inches and a power output of 450 bhp. Having been originally sold in June 1967 in Missouri, this stunning LHD car spent much of its early life in the US, being imported to the United Kingdom in 2017 and is currently showing an indicated 69,841 miles.

This cars pedigree and condition has been recognised in a feature of Mustang Enthusiast magazine as well as numerous 1st place finishes in car shows across the United States. The interior and paintwork are both in excellent condition with almost every piece of unpainted metalwork on the car having been powder-coated alongside a detailed service and maintenance history, both in the US and since its import to the UK.
