Volvo P1800 S – Built to FIA Rally Specification.

The story of the Volvo P1800 began in 1957, Volvo wanted a sports car to compete in the US & European markets. Volvo turned to Jensen Motors, whose production lines were under-utilised, and they agreed a contract for 10,000 cars. The Linwood body plant, manufacturer of Pressed Steel, was in turn sub-contracted by Jensen to create the unibody shells, which were then taken by rail to be assembled at Jensen in West Bromwich. In September 1960, the first production P1800 (for the 1961 model year) left Jensen for an eager public and soon after this the elegant Coupe was popularised by “The Saint” television series.

As time passed, Jensen had problems with quality control, so the contract was ended early after 6,000 cars had been built. In 1963 production was moved to Volvo’s Lundby Plant in Gothenburg. The P1800 was powered by a 1780cc, 4 cylinder 115 bhp engine which could propel the car to 109mph.

The Volvo P1800 S built to FIA rally specification offered at Autostorico was first registered on 2^nd May 1968 to its first owner having been supplied through Stevenson’s Motors Ltd of Tunbridge Wells.  Finished in Red with Black interior trim, this three owner car has covered 151,607 miles. Purchased by its second owner Barbara Morris an avid Volvo enthusiast and club member in 1998. Barbara undertook a conversion to full FIA rally specification and successfully campaigned the car throughout the U.K and Europe for many years sitting alongside her sister as navigator..

As you would expect this P1800 has been well maintained regardless of cost by its previous owners. A significant amount of documented work has been carried out during their ownership alongside regular servicing.

Supplied with an extensive history file including a current V5 registration certificate, Original book pack including service voucher booklet, current MOT valid until 24^th January 2023, numerous invoices and other related history.
